Romantic Castle Wedding in Tuscany

Laura and Sean are the most adorable couple. They flew all the way from New York to Tuscany to celebrate their wedding in Castello di Montegufoni. I love this castle with its extravagant rooms and whimsical decorations. It is definitely a unique location with a lot of different spaces to host all the various events of the day. The flowers were as fun as the bride and groom themselves, big bold proteas featured in the bridal bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets, whereas smaller ‘blushing bride’ proteas were use in the crown for the flower girl. The ceremony was kept in the small courtyard and adorned with olive green arrangements after which they had a generous cocktail in the Italian garden. Because the property is quite big we had a lot of fun walking around finding nice backdrops for the couple photos and when the sun set, Tuscany really showed her magic light. The dinner was set up in the big court entrance of the castle with one long table and string lights overhead. Wonderful Tuscan food was served throughout the evening accompanied by great music. All in all this was a day to remember and I for one am very happy to have taken part in this.

Julie & Gregory's Intimate Wedding in Florence Tuscany

I’ve covered intimate weddings before, very intimate with perhaps just the spouses and their children or their parents. But never a true romantic elopement like this one. Julie contacted the girls from Trouwen in Toscane to ask if they could help her with the Italian bureaucracy and they ended up being the official witnesses in the council. I was very happy to be their wedding photographer in Tuscany that day. It is amazing to see how two people just decide to run off and have a romantic wedding weekend in Florence. They stayed in the beautiful Hotel Brunelleschi right in the center of Florence where Gregory improvised as the hairdresser and actually did a pretty decent job braiding Julie’s hair. (He did say he had practiced back home in Belgium)

We took some shots in the hotel and walked towards the Palazzo Vecchio, stopping every two steps to take photo’s in the beautiful streets of Florence. After the ceremony we had several hours to do a love shoot and I have to say, looking back now on the photo’s, I remind myself again and again how colourful Florence really is! The blue sky, the many colours on Ponte Vecchio, the green of the grass and the roses in the Rose Garden. Every shot looked like a postcard from Italy. I wish Julie and Gregory all the best and hope they will come back to enjoy Florence and, who knows, ask me to cover their ten year anniversary :)
