Planning a wedding in Tuscany? One of the most common — and important — questions couples ask is:

“What’s the best time of year to get married in Tuscany?”

As a local wedding photographer based in the heart of Italy, I’ve captured weddings in every season — and I can tell you, each time of year offers something unique. In this guide, you’ll get an honest, month-by-month breakdown of Tuscany’s seasons, with tips on:

• Weather

• Light

• Crowds

• Pricing

•. Sunset timing

• Photographer insights for each season

Whether you’re dreaming of sun-drenched vineyards or candlelit castles, here’s what to expect.

Spring Weddings in Tuscany (March – May)

Spring in Tuscany is romantic, floral, and a little unpredictable — in the best way.

March starts cool, but by mid April and May, gardens bloom and golden light returns.

What to Expect:

•. Avg. temperatures: 15–24°C (59–75°F)

• Lush greenery, wildflowers, and blooming roses

• Slight chance of spring showers

• Longer daylight hours (especially in May)

Crowds: Low in March and early April, but May gets busier with weddings and tourism.

Pricing: Good value in early spring. Rates begin to rise by May.

Sunset time:

• March: ~18:00–18:30 (6:00–6:30 PM)

• April: ~19:30–20:00 (7:30–8:00 PM)

• May: ~20:15–20:45 (8:15–8:45 PM

Photographer Insight:

Mid-April through May is one of my favorite times to photograph weddings — soft light, lush landscapes, and a fresh atmosphere without the summer crowds.

Summer Weddings in Tuscany (June – August)

Summer is Tuscany’s peak wedding season — and for good reason. Vineyards are full, sunsets are long, and nights are warm.

What to Expect:

• Avg. temperatures: 28–38°C (82–100°F)

• Golden fields and olive groves

Crowds: Very busy. Tourist season is at its peak.

Pricing: Highest of the year. Venues and vendors book up early, and rates reflect demand.

Sunset time:

• June: ~20:45–21:00 (8:45–9:00 PM)

• July: ~20:30–20:45 (8:30–8:45 PM)

• August: ~20:00–20:30 (8:00–8:30 PM)

Photographer Insight:

Plan for a later ceremony (17:00–17:30 / 5–5:30 PM) to avoid the midday sun and harsh light. Dinners under fairy lights or olive trees at night are magic. If possible, avoid the last 7 days of July and the first two weeks of August — it’s the hottest time of year in Tuscany. Also, try to skip planning around August 15th (Ferragosto), when much of Italy shuts down for holiday and many vendors are unavailable.

Autumn Weddings in Tuscany (September – October)

Autumn is a secret favorite among locals. The crowds thin, the light is warm and golden, and the vineyards turn slowly to rust-orange and deep green.

What to Expect:

• Avg. temperatures:

• September: 20–27°C (68–81°F)

• October: 15–22°C (59–72°F)

• Grape harvest (especially in early September)

• Gorgeous sunsets + rich colors

Crowds: September is still lively, especially during harvest festivals. October is quieter.

Pricing: Early September remains high season; rates begin to drop in mid-October.

Sunset time:

• September: ~19:15–19:45 (7:15–7:45 PM)

• October: ~18:15–18:45 (6:15–6:45 PM)

Photographer Insight:

The best golden hour light of the year happens in September and early October — perfect for romantic photo sessions. October nights can be fresh so start your dinner little bit earlier.

Winter Weddings in Tuscany (November – February)

Winter in Tuscany is off-season for destination weddings — and while it may not suit large celebrations, it can be magical for elopements, editorial shoots, or intimate ceremonies.

Most traditional venues and outdoor spaces close from late November through February, especially countryside villas and castles. However, select boutique hotels, historic palazzos, or Florence-based venues may remain open for smaller-scale events.

Elopement at 5 star hotel Villa Cora in Florence

What to Expect:

• Avg. temperatures: 8–14°C (46–57°F) — often can be foggy or damp

Very limited venue availability (most reopen in March)

• Extremely quiet: no tourists, no crowds

• Short days and indoor-focused celebrations

Crowds: Minimal to none — Tuscany feels local and calm.

Pricing: Lowest rates of the year for accommodation — if you find an open venue.

Sunset time:

• November: ~16:45–17:15 (4:45–5:15 PM)

• December: ~16:30–16:45 (4:30–4:45 PM)

• January: ~17:00–17:30 (5:00–5:30 PM)

• February: ~17:30–18:00 (5:30–6:00 PM)

Photographer Insight:

This season isn’t ideal for most destination weddings, but it’s perfect for creative couples dreaming of moody, candlelit settings, styled elopements, or low-key city celebrations in Florence. Think elegant interiors, velvet textures, and soft winter light — not vineyards and sunsets

Quick Comparison Chart:

Season Temp (°C/°F) Crowds Pricing Sunset Best For
Spring (Mar–May) 15–24°C / 59–75°F Low to moderate Medium 18:00–20:45 Florals, soft light, fresh colors

Final Thoughts from a Photographer

There’s no bad time to get married in Tuscany — but the “best” time depends on your vision.

Some couples want a festive vineyard wedding under the sun, while others imagine a candlelit dinner in a historic palazzo. The beauty of Tuscany is that it offers both — at different times of year.

As your photographer, I help you plan not just around dates — but around light, atmosphere, and natural beauty so your images feel timeless and effortless.

Under Tuscan Sun | Wedding in Tuscany

Step 1: Choose the Right Season for Photos

Tuscany’s golden light is most magical in spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October). These months also offer milder weather, making outdoor ceremonies and photo sessions comfortable and beautiful.

Step 2: Select a Photographer Who Knows Tuscany

Your photographer is one of the most important vendors for your wedding. Choose someone who understands Tuscany’s unique landscapes, lighting, and architecture. Having worked at iconic venues like Castello di Meleto, Torre a Cona, Castello di Celsa, Villa Le Fontanelle and many more… I know how to find the perfect angles to highlight both you and the beauty of your surroundings.

Step 3: Incorporate Local Traditions

Tuscany is rich in culture and tradition, which can make your wedding even more special. For example:

-Host a pre-wedding pizza night or wine tasting for your guests.

-Give your guests small gifts with Tuscan touch.

-Consider having a live band play Italian classics during your reception.

These touches not only enhance your guest experience but also make for unique and memorable photos.
